How to Set Custom Wallpaper on Mac OS X For iMac and Macbook Pro

If you are new to the Mac OS machines — like me — then you may not be entirely aware of the features the Operating System boasts of. In this post, I’ll discuss on how to set a custom wallpaper on your Mac desktop — hopefully the iMac and Macbook Pro users will find this useful.

Firstly, custom wallpapers can be any image, of any resolution. But it is always better to download wallpaper of good resolution. Now, to set custom wallpaper, right click on the desktop and select “Change Desktop Background.”

A window appears, where you can choose any of the built-in wallpaper, but we need to select our saved wallpaper. So: click on the + button in the lower-left corner of the screen. Here is the screenshot:

That’s it! You can now select any wallpaper, saved images and set it as your Mac wallpaper. Just like that.

How to Change Wallpaper on Mac OS X [iMac and Macbook Pro]

Mac OS X bundles wallpapers with it. Whether you are on the iMac 27”, or the Macbook Pro machine, changing wallpaper on the Mac is just a click away.

Firstly, to change wallpaper on Mac OS X, go to your desktop. Now right click on the desktop using the magic mouse. This should look similar to the screenshot below:

Click on the “Change Desktop background,” this should invoke a window that shows the list of wallpaper that is bundled with the Mac OS X on your iMac and Macbook Pro.

Now you know the drill. Simply click on any of the images and the Mac desktop wallpaper will be changed instantly. Look at the left panel and you will notice that you can change folder and select different wallpaper. You can also change images every 30 minutes as shown. Go ahead and explore the wallpaper section. Have fun!

Officially Launched: Apple iPad Available in India

Apple has never managed to flood the Indian market with its innovative product, but it is rapidly gaining visibility, thanks to the Apple iPad tablet. The much-awaited tablet of the 2010 has finally been launched in India, well, in 2011. Apple has announced the launch of Apple iPad in India today — setting a new price which most of believe is quite “affordable.”

Apple tied up with government-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited to launch the tablet in the country. The pricing and features details have been put up on the Apple India website. We will update you on this website, so have a look at the iPad category.

Buy Apple iPad

You can buy the Wi-Fi version of the iPad at Rs. 26,000 and Rs 33,000, while the 3G+Wi-Fi version will be priced between Rs 33,000 and Rs 44,000. Both the iPad versions will come in three capacities, which are 16GB, 32GB and 64GB.

However, the big question in view is: Will you buy the tablet? Because, as some of you might know, Apple iPad 2 is coming soon, although only in the US. But, rest assured, Apple iPad 2 will be an improved version of the Apple iPad.

Also, with Android gaining like Samsung Tab gaining the upper hand in the competition, it would be interesting to see the initial response from the Indian consumers.

Dear Angry Birds developer,

I am writing this post on behalf of my family members. Angry Birds, you may never understand the liking we have developed for you, and we are short of words to tell how much we like you, but we do know one word that describes you very well: addictive.

As my mom says, “Angry birds is not just any game, but a stress buster at its best.” Along with that, she circumspectly adds, “God, I love this game, wish they had many more levels.”

So, by now, you must have guessed it that we are through all the levels of this overly addictive game. It was a fun ride. And while we were at it, we played each level at least three times to make sure not to end up finishing the game in a couple of days. Even then, it took us around three weeks.

As we have nothing to play with right now, the inanity of levels is what bothers us. You folks must be raking in millions of dollars, which you guys rightly deserve, but here’s a plea from your aficionado:

Please introduce new levels.

Yes, I am aware of the Angry Birds season game and frankly it didn’t take us long to complete that season. Let those “angry” clone game not back you, we know which is the real game here.

It’s a sad sight to forcefully adopt to the cloned games which are hardly any fun to play. Even the popular games fails to raise eyebrows and are an entertainer for a day or two only.

So, that’s about it. All I had to say is here, although I don’t see you reading this post, but my mom wanted me to write as she always says, “This game is soooo cool.”

We are waiting guys, we are waiting.

WordPress crashes on iPhone, iPod touch 3G

I wanted to give a shot at wordpress app for iPhone and iPod touch. I did try the older version of the app — and the end result: the app crashed.

Hoping the newer version would work flawlessly, I re-downloaded the app from the AppStore. The issues seems to be unresolved. I wasn’t able to log into my wordpress blog, let alone writing post.

The issue seems to have surfaced on all the iPhone and iPod touch models.

The wordpress offers free blogging platform and then the app is also available for download with no strings attached. So, yeah, I shouldn’t be complaining, but then, for the last time — do us a favor wordpress — look into the wordpress app and fix it!

End of the random rant.

iPod touch MP4 format Video?

Being aware of the fact that both PSP and iPod touch supports MP4 format, I went ahead and downloaded couple of music videos that were in .mp4 format.

Unlike in iPod touch, adding files into PSP doesn’t require any synchronization methods. It’s just drag and drop. The videos on my PSP worked flawlessly, and was a treat to watch. However, upon sync the same MP4 video files from iTunes onto the iPod touch, the videos never worked!

On a quick research, I figured out mp4 and mpeg4 are treated differently. iPod touch doesn’t play the video file because of the resolution difference. So, had to use a converter to convert the video into iPod touch format and then sync.

It’s a pain having same videos into two different formats. Just saying!

iPod touch 4G Price in India | iTouch 4G India

The pricings of iPod touch 4G in India has been out officially. Before we dive into the pricings I’d recommend you to check out the features and specifications of iPod touch 4G that I wrote couple of days ago.

So, using the most advanced technology, the iPod touch 4G doesn’t come anywhere near to the pricings of iPod touch 3G 8GB model. In fact, the price of iPod touch 4G is almost double the iPod touch 3G price.

As per the apple press release, in India, itouch 4G costs:

iPod Touch 4G 8GB – Rs. 15,400
iPod Touch 4G 32GB – Rs. 19,900
iPod Touch 4G 64GB – Rs. 25,900

While in the US, Apple has publicly disclosed the iPod touch 4G 8GB model at $229. Converting this USB 229 into INR, it comes down to the price of RS. 10305(assuming $1 equals INR 45). Even then, when you purchase the device in India, you’re paying a LOT of extra money.

Suppose you are buying the iPod touch 8GB 4G model, you are shelling out an additional Rs. 5000 when you compare to the US price. However, the pricing in India is inclusive of VAT. I don’t know how much do they charge in the US (or do they charge at all?) but that’s one FAT VAT we are paying in India.

By the way, for $299 you can get 32GB iTouch and for $399 you can get the iPod touch 4G 64GB model in US.

Pricing given above may slightly vary in Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and in other cities of India.

Which one to buy: Apple iPod or Apple iPhone India? iPhone Vs. iPod touch

Alright. The debate of whether going for Apple iPhone or the Apple iPod touch seems rather too daft, but I think — as an apple fan boy — I should cover this at Indialoka.

I also assume that if you’re reading this, then you don’t have apple iPhone or the iPod touch yet. So, I’ll do my best to cover all the possible advantages both the apple devices has to offer.

Apple iPhone Versus iPod touch

For starters, iPod touch is similar to MP3 players but you can also enjoy playing games, using apps on the large touch screen. In iPhone, all the benefits of iPod touch are inherited, plus you can make phone calls in iPhone.

All the new models of the Apple iPhone has 3G whilst the iPod touch doesn’t include this feature. Note that iPod touch 3G doesn’t have this feature, nor the latest iPod touch 4G (has facetime video calling feature though).

iPhone 3GS in India

Apple have merely branded the iPod touch with 3G name, so its indeed deceiving. However, Apple iPhone has 3G for real. This 3G lets you connect to wide-area wireless network, do voice telephone, access internet from anywhere, make video calls and watch TV on your mobile phone.

BSNL and Tata docomo have come up with 3G plans, but the tariff plans aren’t cheaper. So, majority of Apple iPhone users in India aren’t using 3G. Hence, iPod might seem like a good buy.
