The salary of a part time job varies from company to company and from job to job. The amount of time spent in the company is also a parameter based on which salary is decided. Whereas certain job descriptions require certain skill sets, other jobs require a minimum education degree.
At times, your educational qualifications may also decide the salary you draw in such a job.
Most students get involved in a part time job simply for the lure of money. To maintain extravagant lifestyles and to avoid suffering from inferiority complex in front of moneyed friends, a lot of students feel that part time jobs are the perfect options for them. With money comes a certain degree of freedom and earning as a student has various other privileges too.
But then how much does a part time job really offer? And is the salary really worth the effort?
In part time jobs, often exploitation of labor becomes a major problem. Since employees do not have a major degree to boast and since a major percentage of students are young and gullible, it is very easy for their employers to extract maximum work out of them. The salary paid for such work is not much.
But since there are no workers unions or bodies as such for part timers, no one dare complain. Very often, young men and women silently bear the brunt without having an inkling of how low their wages are. But this is not the ordeal of part time jobs only. This is a larger malaise and applies to almost all jobs in the country. So, in retrospection, part time jobs are not a one off-case and hence most people in these jobs have to make do with what they get.
Technical and data entry jobs usually offer higher salaries than do other jobs. BPO or KPO jobs give good salaries, but also require more of your time. Working as a waiter in a coffee shop or as a bartender in a bar can be more fulfilling monetarily than being in a creative job where artistic and aesthetic skills are required.
At the end of the day, it is your prerogative what kind of part time job you want to be in. If it is salary that is your priority, then you would want to work in any sector which gives you value for work. But if you want mental satisfaction too, then you need to be more circumspect.
