So, what is a torrent? Let’s keep this short – Torrent is a file sharing method that is possible only with a internet connection. By sharing, it means you can download or upload files.

Let’s take an example: Your friend, residing in a different country, wants to send a file over to you and one of the easiest way is to make use of e-mail. Because it is secure and a one-on-one transfer i.e., your friend uploads the file from his computer and you download them.

We can connect this simple example to torrent. But there is a slight difference here - In torrent the files are uploaded onto the internet torrent sites and are accessible to thousands of people. Also those who download can upload the same file (using a torrent client) so as to increase the download speed. Simply put the user that just downloads file and doesn’t upload are called leechers and the users who download and upload torrent data are seeders.

Who is a Seeder in Torrent?

The one who uploads files using torrent client is a seeder. Seeding helps other people to download the files faster.

Who is a Leecher in torrent?

Someone who downloads the torrent files and doesn’t upload anymore. Why would anyone do that? Because they just don’t want to! Usually Private torrent sites bans torrent leechers. So always be a seeder!

To open or to download torrent files, you need to download torrent clients. These are free software that are available on the internet and are pretty easy to use.
